Another Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Silas, was kidnapped from the Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State on the morning of Monday, July 4.
The incharge of the St Charles Catholic Church, Fr. Silas in the Kauru LGA, was said to be missing after he did not appear for morning mass.
Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Okolo, the Chancellor of Kafanchan Catholic Diocese, revealed the news in a statement on Monday evening. However, he urged the Christian community to stay calm as legal processes are under process to assure his safe and quick release.
Okolo stated that “It is with tremendous pain that we reveal to you the abduction of our Priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Silas.”
The sad incident is assumed to have taken place during the early hours of July 4, 2022, when he did not appear for the morning prayer.
He is reported to have been kidnapped from the parish rectory of St. Charles Catholic Church in Zambina, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Chancellor further said that, as they request for intense prayer for his safe and quick release, we equally desire to call on all and sundry to restrict from taking laws into their hands.
All the legal means will be used to locate him and bring him back as soon as possible.
Recently, gunmen have been releasing havoc on Christians in the state and, most particularly, are targeting catholic priests.
Hardly two weeks earlier, Reverend Father Vitus Borogo was murdered, and his brother was kidnapped by bandits while working on his farm. He was laid to rest last week in the state capital.
Other priests were also abducted in Katsina, Edo and other states during the period of last month and now, amid the increasing spate of attacks on the Christian community by the criminals.
