Taraba State team is selected to represent Nigeria at the International Debate Championship coming up shortly.
But before this, the Taraba state students secured 3rd position in the President’s Interstate Debate Championship for Secondary Schools that took place in Abuja.
The team leader, Joshua Joel, thanked all the officials who were responsible for the smooth conduct of the debate competition, which included the Commissioner for Education, Taraba State Mrs. Rabi Sunday, the Acting Chairperson and the powerful Women And Foot Soldiers of His Excellency’s Change Mantra On Education.
He also thanked the Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board for their tireless efforts, encouragement and support to team Taraba, the Director, Mrs Nguveren Myegba and other management staff of SUBEB to attain this feat.
As the leader of Team Taraba, Joshua Joel dedicated the victory to God and to the Executive Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas, for his reengineering philosophy of providing quality Basic Education service delivery in Taraba State.
The Governor, Theodore Orji, made this known in his Executive Committee Chambers when the Chairman of the Abia State Universal Education Board, Mike Onyebuchi, presented the pupils, trophies, and certificates won to him. He also gave cash rewards of one hundred naira each to the pupils and one million naira to all the teachers who were part of the success story.
He noted that outstanding children need to be encouraged to enable them to achieve more in life, saying they deserve more than the first position. According to him, their parents, whose genes produced them, and the teachers who tutored and mentored them to the paths of greatness deserve worthy commendations.
He also said that the pupils have conquered other contingents across the thirty-six states and the FCT to emerge winners despite the numerous laurels at the zonal, state, national and international arena in the past. Apart from this, One of the pupils was adjudged the ‘Best Outstanding Debater’ in Nigeria.
