Anambra govt recieves donation for tree planting campaign

Tree planting policy is one major initiative of Governor of Anambra Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo. He is adding the event to his clean, green, liveable, and sustainable calendar to help curb erosion. The initiative will foster adequate nutrient recycling in the environment, which in turn maintains a stable ecosystem

Vincent Chukwuebuka Ezike, a well-meaning Anambra and CEO of Morizbo Forestry and Green Concepts, donated 1000 guava seedlings, orange, step trees, and African tulip to the Anambra state Ministry of Environment.

The tree-planting exercise took off from Block A Building in the Secretariat. further, the excersise extended to the rest of the State Secretariat and its environs. Meanwhile, the event tate House of Assembly and Alex Ekwueme were also not left out.

Commissioner of Environment Engr Dr Felix Odimegwu spoke before the tree planting exercise. He expressed his profound gratitude to the donor. Additionally, he stated that this act of benevolence from Onye Anambra is a huge plus to the “Environment Community”.

“Mr. Governor has maintained and encouraged the tree planting policy for the past 18 months in office. They reached out to 181 communities in the state with millions of seedlings of different species”.

“Erosion has taken a huge toll in the state with 30% of our landmass threatened by erosion. It has also overwhelmed the government as it stands now. Everybody has a role to play. We are also calling on individuals, groups, who share like minds with our donors to partner with the state government. The call is to help curb this existential threat,” he finalized.

Contributing, Vincent Ezike, the donor, stated that his intentions towards the donation are to support the Soludo-led administration. They would also help alleviate the high-rising erosion menace in the state.

In attendance were; Appointees of the Governor on Environment, Perm. Sec Barr. Ngozi Iwuno, Dir of Ecology; Mr Edochie, Dir of Forestry; Mrs Achugamonye, Dir of Environmental Health; Mrs Nwankwu, and Staff, all from the Ministry of Environment.
