Dominica: Deep Dominica attracts 51 divers to their shores for freediving

The Commonwealth of Dominica is playing host to fifty-one individuals for Deep Dominica’s Inaugural Free Diving Competition. The Tourism Authority of Dominica shared some glimpses from the first part of the event. Further, note that the opening event of the ceremony took place on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Further, Soufriere served as the opening event venue, attracting the attention of over 50 divers. 

During Deep Dominica’s Inaugural Free Diving Competition, the divers got to experience the deep sea of Dominica. They also indulged in the adventures that the sea had to offer. The participants of the free diving event included participants from various parts of the world. The divers came from nations like:

  • United States of America
  • United Kingdom
  • Chile
  • France 
  • Canada
  • Ecuador, 
  • China, 
  • Mexico
  • Barbados

Additionally, the local free divers from Dominica also participated in the initiative by the authorities. Of the 51 individuals who travelled from various parts of the world to Dominica, 40 were free divers. Further, Out of these, 20 are athletes, along with four judges and six safety and rescue team members. 

The rescue team comprises six members, including a doctor and a photographer specialising in underwater photography and also video. Meanwhile, The deep dominica takes the safety and security of the competition very seriously. They take great precautions to ensure the safety of the participants. 

Accordingly, the team of Deep Dominica took to their social media to express their gratitude to the head of the safety team: Daniel Cordova. The anticipation for the event is increasing day by day. The official authorities of Deep Dominica Freedive have expressed their happiness at the increasing anticipation. 

They expressed that the team is taking all the steps to ensure the smooth hosting of the event. Meanwhile, the tourism authority has also shared that the anticipation increased not only for the inaugural free dive, but also for the 2023 edition of the dive fest. The competition will resume on Monday, June 26 for the free diving competition.
