Pakistan: Three dead in Barkhan District, family blame local politician

The police officials working in the Barkhan District raided the house of a prominent Minister, Abdul Rehman Khetran, after discovering three bodies riddled with bullets in a well in the district.

The police officials working in the Barkhan District raided the house of a prominent Minister, Abdul Rehman Khetran, after discovering three bodies riddled with bullets in a well in the district. The bodies were of a woman and two men. The deceased were members of a local tribe.

The three bodies have been claimed by members of their tribe who performed their funeral prayers. Following this, the tribe members brought the bodies to Abdul Sattar Edhi. A Resident of Kohlu, and member of the tribe, Khan Muhammad Marri, has claimed the bodies. He informed the sources that the victims were his wife and sons.

Following the discovery of the bodies, a voice recording from the “heir” to the bodies, Marri started doing rounds on social media. In this recording, he accused Minister Abdul Rehman Khetran of having five more enslaved people. The Minister of construction and Communications has denied the allegations against him. He has argued that these allegations are a conspiracy to damage his political reputation.

The victims’ families protested at the Fayyaz Sumbal Chowk to get justice for the three deceased victims. On the other hand, Minister Khetran has argued that he does not own a prison and that if it were true, the prison would have gotten discovered. He further claimed the conspiracy against him seeks to deprive him of practising regional politics.

The political leaders of the Balochistan Assembly in Quetta condemned the gruesome murders. Meanwhile, police officials in the Barkhan district have started an investigation into the murders. The authorities have constituted a joint investigative team under the chairmanship of the Loralai Range DIG for the investigations.

Some notable members of the Joint Investigative Team include the SSP Investigation, Special Branch Barkhan representative and Barkhan DC. The government has assked the team to present their findings in a report within thirty days
