MIchael Ogueke Shares philosphical post about religious rigidness

Nigerian Writer, political economist and thinker Michael Ogueke has shared a philosophical post on his social media account.

Nigerian Writer, political economist and thinker Michael Ogueke has shared a philosophical post on his social media account. In his social media post, he wondered about the difference in the rules of Islam and Christianity in some countries compared to others.

Additionally, in the post, Professor Michael Ogueke wonders if the western nations gave Africa and Nigeria the religions, Islam and Christianity or if it was the other way around.

He looked back at a personal experience where one of his friends who teaches in an Islamic private school once told me that the school owners forbid them from using drums for march-past during the school’s annual sports festivals. This is because, according to them, using drums is prohibited in Islam.

He compares this rule to the situation in Qatar, an Islamic Nation. He wrote that in Qatar, he saw Moroccan fans beating away drums joyously with wild abandon to cheer their team. Here, it is worth paying attention that Morocco is also an Islamic nation.

He further explained that he saw several things: tolerance, liberalism, progressivism & development in Qatar, UAE, Saudi, Kuwait & other Arab countries.

At the same time, he saw the same things in Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan & many non-Arab Islamic or predominantly Islamic nations.

Here he expressed that he looks at developed nations like Europe & America & their brand of Christianity. And then he looks at Israel – the root of Christianity & Islam.

Michael Ogueke confessed that he has wondered if it was the Jews, Europeans & Arabs that brought to Africa & Nigeria, in particular Christianity & Islam. Were these nations giving us the Bible & Koran, or were we Africans, especially Nigerians, that indeed gave the Jews, Europeans & Arabs Christianity, Islam, Koran & the Bible?!

With this observation, he originally means to ask why Nigeria and Africa’s Islamic rules are more rigid than any other nations.
