Nigeria Police confirm death of a rape victim in Ebonyi

DSP Loveth Odah, the Police Public Relations Officer, on behalf of Aliyu Garba, the Commissioner of Police, revealed this on Wednesday, 4 May, in Abakaliki.

Odah disclosed that several efforts were being carried out to arrest and detain the wrongdoers accordingly to provide justice to the victim, Ugochukwu Nworie.

She said that the investigation confirmed that the woman was gang-raped because more than 12 used condoms were found in the room.

She further added that further investigation is still going on and would provide more additional information required in this case.

The Police Spokesperson said that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Kpirikpiri Police Division in the region told that the incident took place in the Hope-in hotel, located in Nine Ngbowo street, Abakaliki.

The DPO reported that the incident took place while they were on a routine check of the hotel. A room was found that was not accounted for.

The DPO then decided to ask from the receptionist, who told him that the visitor in the room was unknown to him.

Odah said, “Several efforts to open the room proved unsuccessful until he asked for the spare key to unlock the door, only to find a lifeless body of the lady, naked along with her legs, hands with mouth were tied to the bed in the room.”

She informed that the corpse had been deposited at a morgue while describing the incident as heartbreaking.

She said the corpse was given to a morgue, describing the incident as unfortunate and an offence against humanity.

Odah also raised a warning against the general public, especially young ladies, to be careful.
