Olamilekan Olubusade, aged 26, has reportedly drowned in Lagos’ Alpha Beach while he was swimming with his friends.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Lagos state, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, August 23, stated that the body has not yet been rescued.
Hundeyin stated that the elder brother of the victim, Ayorinde Olubusade, reported the incident to the Ilasan police division around 2:20 pm on Tuesday.
He stated that the information from Ayorinde disclosed that on Monday, around 5:17 pm, his brother, Olamilekan, of Igbo Efon area, Ilasan of Lagos, went to Alpha Beach Igbo Efon, with his friends.
Ayorinde added that his younger brother reportedly drowned while swimming, and all the efforts to find him were unsuccessful.
Per the information received, the police visited the scene of the incident and were also captured by Marine and conventional Policemen members.
He added that search and rescue operations by the Marine police officials and local divers in order to find the body are being intensified, and further investigations are being carried out.
In another incident, a 42-year-old local pedestrian, Kareem Moshood, was reportedly knocked down on Monday, August 22, while he was crossing the expressway at the Agogo Igbala bus stop on the Lagos-Badagry expressway, Morogbo.
The police officials stated that because of this incident, the victim, a resident of No. 20, Kolawole Street, Pako Ketu, died on the spot.
Hundeyin stated that a team of traffic policemen visited the scene of the incident and photographed the spot. At the same time, the dead body was removed and sent to the public mortuary for an autopsy.
He added that the driver of the Toyota Highlander SUV with registration number KRD 711 FX, Abiodun Rasheed, had been arrested and is in police custody while an investigation is under process.
