House of Assembly Urges Gov Soludo to take steps towards road safety

Anambra State House of Assembly has urged the governor of the state Governor Chukwuma Soludo to work towards securing the state’s roads. According to the House of Assembly, Governor Soludo must direct the Commissioner for transport urgently. Following these orders, they evacuate all the articulated lorries and trucks that are sitting along the Onitsha-Enugu expressway around the old Ogbunike toll gate and Stanel filling station Agu Awka.

According to the political leaders in the House of Assembly, these actions will work to prevent road mishaps. The country’s governor will to talk with the concerned authorities in this regard. The rules have shared updates on the situation through their social media account.

According to the sources, House passed the resolution following a motion by the member representing Anaocha Constituency Two, Ejike Okechukwu, during plenary in Awka.

The Legislator expressed sadness about the present circumstances. He stated that trucks and lorry drivers dump or park their vehicles on the Express Road around the Old Ogbunike Tollgate and Stanel Filling Station Agu Awka. Further, He wondered why these trucks and lorries are usually parked on both sides of the Express Road, leaving a very narrow part for the commuters.

Meanwhile, In his reaction, the Majority Leader of the House, Chief Ikenna Ofodeme, noted the situation causes obstruction and traffic in the areas, which results in accidents and loss of lives.

Additionally, In their contributions, the member representing Awka North Constituency, Honourable Johnmark Ikwunne, and his Onitsha North Constituency Two counterpart, Honourable Pat Okafor, maintained that if these vehicles are removed, the roads will be wider and clearer for the road users and also reduce the rate accidents drastically.

Thus, Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, condemned the act and read out the resolution of the House, while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.
