Federal University of Technology (FUTO) Alumni Association, operational in the Uyo state, has started to embark on school visitation. The aim of these visitations by the Alumni association is to mentor students and donate modern textbooks.
The gesture of mentoring and donation aims to improve the performance of students. Additionally, they seek to add to the free and compulsory education policy of the Uyo State Government.
The Alumni body has created a policy of selecting one secondary school per senatorial district. They visit every year to visit, mentor and donate books to boost the library for the benefit of students.
This year’s edition had Community Secondary School, Ikpe Annang, for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, Itam Secondary School, Obong Itam, Uyo Senatorial District and Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Ekeya Okobo for Eket Senatorial District.
The Chairman of the FUTO Alumni Association, Uyo Chapter, addressed the event. During the event the association was donating books on behalf of the FUTO. During his address, the Chairman noted that the Alumni body had noticed the decay in infrastructure and resource materials in public schools with great concern. Thus, he pointed out that the FUTO Alumni association has decided to intervene in providing resource materials in public schools.
Further, the association’s Chairman encouraged students to read the materials provided. He believes that the resources provided by the association will come to aid them in their chosen careers.
The Principals, Teachers and Students of the Community Secondary School, Ikpe Annang, for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, Itam Secondary School, Obong Itam, Uyo Senatorial District and Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Ekeya Okobo for Eket Senatorial District, were full of appreciation to the Alumni body.
Further, the students in the various schools also expressed their readiness to read the provided materials. They also committed to filling FUTO in their JAMB forms to seek admission to the educational institution.
