The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has thwarted the operations of Dana Air and suspended its licences. This is to allow the regulator to conduct a full audit of its operations to verify if the carrier can carry out safe operations of its flights.
The decision came a few days after the carrier had to take an emergency landing at the Abuja airport.
NCAA stated that it had a doubt regarding the safe operations of the carrier.
A statement issued by the NCAA read that the decision is the result of a financial and economic health audit which has been carried out on the Airline by the Authority and the results of an investigation on the flight operations of the Airline recently, which disclosed that Dana Air could not carry out financial obligations and to run safe flight operations.
The NCAA realises the negative impact this sudden decision will have on the passengers of the Airline and the travelling public while aiming to understand as the safety of flight operations is of utmost importance over all other considerations.
But, some angry passengers of the Airline who were left abandoned at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, yesterday damaged some property of the Airline.
As per the sources, the passengers had come to the airport early on Thursday so that they could board their scheduled flights on time, but they witnessed that the counter of Dana Air was unmanned by any of the Airline’s personnel.
One of the passengers of the Airline stated that he was going to miss his first child’s birth because of the decision of the NCAA.
A few other passengers got fierce after waiting for several hours only to know that they would not be going with Dana Aur because of the Airline’s sudden suspension by the NCAA.
Sometime later, Airline officials came to the scene and asked the violent passengers to write their names for possible refund, ensuring them that they would start to get refunds by this weekend or early next week.
