‘Elvis’ film actress, Shonka Dukureh, was found dead in her residence located in Nashville on Thursday, July 21.
The 44-year-old, Dukureh was found in the room of the house where she resided along with her two children.
One of her children discovered her motionless and reported the same to her neighbour for help. Investigations are going on to find the reason for her death as police stated that there seems to be no fraud involved in her death.
Metro Nashville police department confirmed the death of the famous singer and actor through a tweet on Thursday, July 21. It stated that “Dukureh, a Fisk University graduate, was discovered dead in the bedroom of her Nashville apartment that she shared with her two young children.”
Preliminary investigations have disclosed that she called 911 around 9:27 am on Thursday.
Shonka Dukureh recently became famous after her film’s release on June 24, 2022, in which she played the role of rhythm and blues singer Big Mama Thornton in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic film ‘Elvis’.
A famous gospel singer of the Nashville area, her career as an actress had just started. Though her passion was for arts but her first love was always being a teacher.
Doja Cat is among many people who mourned the sudden death of musician and actress Shonka Dukureh.
“Rest in Peace, Shonka – an extraordinary talent taken from us too soon. It was a true honour getting to know her so well, and I am so grateful to her for giving vocals to ‘Vegas'”, Doja wrote in her story.
“Her outstanding performance in Elvis amongst her other artistry will live forever. Sending my truest condolences to her loved ones,” she further wrote.
The pair performed together in Coachella this year.
The mayor of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County, John Cooper also gave his condolences to the family of Dukureh.
