Anambra Police arrests 50 year old over mistreatment of mother

The police officials in Anambra State have apprehended a 50-year-old woman, Ukamaka Udeugbo. The law enforcement authorities have shared that they have taken the woman in connection with an incident involving her elderly mother. A widely circulated video featured the two women prominently.

The video showed the 50-year-old woman engaging in behaviour that the viewing audience found extremely concerning. The culprit, whom the police officials have recognized as Ukamaka Udeugbo, was engaging in some questioning behaviour.

After the video came to light, the police authorities of Anambra arrested her on Saturday, July 15. The officials apprehended her in Umudunu village, Abagana, in the state’s Njikoka Local Government Area.

In this video, Ukamaka engaged in behaviour that some viewers found concerning. The video showed also Ukamaka interacting with her elderly mother in a manner that raised questions about the well-being and dignity of her mother. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, further confirmed the incident for the state’s people.

The police force released the statement on Sunday, July 16. According to the statement that the police spokesperson shared, they detailed the following:

“The police have apprehended individual involved in an incident where an unclothed elderly woman was subjected to physical mistreatment. Further, the victim had buckets of water thrown at her while she was on the ground. The statement also conveyed that the 50 year old is currently being held for legal proceedings.

As per the Police Public Relations Officer, the state Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, has decided that they want to transfer the case to the State CID. This will help them to prioritize the public interest.

The PPRO also stated that the CP has authorized that the authorities must arrange to transfer the older woman to the Commissioner for Women Affairs. There, the authorities will ensure that she receives appropriate care from the Anambra State government.

The video circulating on the internet about the incident has attracted a lot of attention. The people have shared their concerns as well as anger on the woman. She was mistreating her mother in the video.
