Renowned author, professional writing guide and Founder of the VITA-W Academy, Ella Obans took to her social media account to share her views about being self aware. According to her, self awareness is extremely critical as it allows persons to ask important questions and not accept the world view as it is presented to them. She recently attended a talk where the orator posed the following question to their audience:
If you have traveled the street of Victoria Island in Lagos upto hundred times, you should be able to answer this question. So he popped the question, the great orator asked us to tell him the number of trees or building along the street of VI. Unfortunately, Ella Obans confessed that none of us could tell. She clarified that not even those who have travelled the area longer than he mentioned.
She asserted that it was obvious that the audience couldn’t give an accurate answer. This is because we never counted it. None of us ever thought counting the trees or buildings was necessary. She further added that the thought is not wrong. Ella stated that There’s no need to count them even, except you’re a real estate agent planning make a survey in that area or something of that nature.
Following this, Obans went back to her recounting her experience with the orator. He had to disclose his reasons for asking us. She recounted the reason in her soci al media. She wroteI guess you already know the answer. You can’t find what you’re not intentionally looking for.
She added that A school of thought says, recognizing a problem makes it half solved. Ella Obans stated that the essence of this content is not to confuse you. Contrarily, she seeks to alert her audience on the essence of building self awareness.
Don’t accept anything as you see it, question them as they come. She advised, don’t overthink it but make sure you don’t build your intentions on what goes. Stop going with the flow. Always pause and ask questions so you don’t end up losing everything, yourself inclusive.
