Forbes Africa has released their first-ever compilation of 50 influential women over 50. Through this compilation list, Forbes seeks to celebrate the successful women leaders of Africa. Four Cameroonian women in places of power and leadership have secured their place amongst the Top 50 Most Influential African Women.
The first native of Cameroon on the list is Denise Epote. She is a 68-year-old journalist, Director of Distribution, Marketing and Sales for the renowned French public television network TV5 Monde. Epote is the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of TV5 Monde and TV5 Monde America Latina.
The second Cameroonian to secure her spot on the list of 50 over fifty most influential women of Africa is Kate Kanyi-Tometi Fotso. She is a businesswoman and head of agro-business. Fotso is the founder of Telcar Cocoa LTD. Her company is the largest cocoa exporter in Cameroon. As per Forbes Africa, she is the richest woman in Cameroon.
Additionally, she enjoys being the 20th richest person in the African Francophonie. Kate Kanyi-Tometi Fotso is considered the queen of Cameroonian agribusiness.
The third influential female to grab a spot in the list of 50 influential women over 50 is Vera Songwe. She is the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations. Songwe also enjoys the reputation of being the First woman to have headed the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). She is the 9th Executive Secretary of the ECA.
The final name on the list of influential females from Cameroon is Carmen Kamgaing. She is the Vice President in charge of distribution at Caterpillar Africa. she covers a network of nearly 150 cities spread over 50 countries and mobilises more than 15,000 employees and partner distributors.
Forbes Africa’s compilation of 50 influential women over 50 is an effort to close the gaps of gender disparity among the population in Africa. All the women featured in the list are hardworking, dedicated and inspiring in their various fields. They are beyond the age of 50 and yet, the thought of retirement or “end of the road” is yet far from their plans
