The Burundi Athletics Federation recently recognized the Nigerian Embassy in Bujumbura through the President of the Federation, Dieudonné Kwizera. Amb Dieudonné Kwizera praised the Embassy of Nigeria, Bujumbura, for their clear devotion to developing Youths and sports in Burundi.
He noted that since his assumption as the Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Burundi, Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba has shown rare courage in building capacity in youth and sports development in Burundi and beyond through various diplomatic policy initiatives.
“This is just a token of appreciation to thank the Nigerian Embassy for being a partner in progress. The Burundi Athletics Federation is pleased to be associated with your giant strides; together, we shall create limitless opportunities for a more prosperous Africa!”
It is worth a mention that the Nigerian Embassy in Bujumbura recently organized two editions of RunBuja in 2021 and 2022. It is a bilateral diplomatic program of the Nigerian Mission in Burundi.
This program presents the Ambassador Trophy as the coveted prize. The programme was organized with the sole aim of deepening economic and social ties, promoting healthy best practices and raising awareness for a healthy and youthful lifestyle.
The program rewards cash sums of 1,000,000 Bif to winners, 750,000 Bif to the first runners-up, while the second runners-up receive 500,000 Bif and several consolation prizes for up to the tenth runners-up in both men’s and women’s categories.
The Nigerian Ambassador of Nigeria Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba received the award on behalf of the Nigerian Embassy in Bujumbura. He thanked the Burundi Athletics Federation for the appreciation.
They noted that this would spur the Embassy to develop further diplomatic fronts to engage, improve and develop our youths through sport.
According to the Nigerian Head of Mission in Burundi, the Embassy has facilitated many other bilateral programmes for the youths in other sectors. These programmes include signing an MOU between the University of Burundi and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Nigeria.
This educational exchange programme involves up to 300 students, beneficiaries and 60 lecturers yearly at no cost. The University of Uyo, Nigeria, has also benefitted from this technical cooperation in academic exchange and research.
