Anambra State: United International Peace and Governance Council of Africa unveiled in Àwka.

The United International Peace and Governance Council of Africa (UN-IPGC AFRICA) was unveiled in the Awka region of the Anambra State.

The United International Peace and Governance Council of Africa (UN-IPGC AFRICA) was unveiled in the Awka region of the Anambra State. The unveiling event took place at the State office at Hallmart Plaza. 

The governor of the state, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, and members of the international communities, among others, were in attendance at the event.

While addressing the volunteers of the new office, the Anambra State governor, Chukwuma Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, charged them to put in their best in making sure that the purpose of their volunteerism is to waste.

The governor further appreciated the representatives of the different international communities and assured a good and conducive atmosphere for a more favourable partnership.

In her speech titled “Enablers of Violence against Women”, the women and social welfare Commissioner, Ify Obinabo, urged women to stop allowing themselves as enablers of violence against their fellow women.

The women and social welfare officer further recounted instances where women have been enablers of violence. She called on them and the male folks to stop and prevent such by being agents of change anywhere they find themselves.

Additionally, the Regional Director of UN-IPGC West Africa, Dr Stanley Godwin Ebhodaghe and the Country President of International Human Rights Protection Services, USA, Dr Charles Omini, condemned the high rate of violence against women. They promise that the authorities will bring more interventions to the state if the message hits the target audience.

While admonishing the inductees of the UN-IPGC, the UNIPGC Special Envoy on Sustainable Peace Education, Anambra State, Dr Chimbo Obieze, encouraged them not to allow their passion for the job to wane. At the same time, he noted that the UNIPGC liaison office would do its best to ensure that they can transform many lives.

The event was also an opportunity to celebrate the International Day for the Prevention of Violence against Women, while the theme “Transforming Our World Through Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).

The event’s highlight was the official Unveiling of the Anambra State UNIPGC Diplomatic Liason office and Arbitration Centre. The Commissioner for Special Duties did the Unveiling. Further, the induction of the volunteers of the UN-IPGC by the Regional Director, UNIPGC West Africa.
