UK Trade Envoy to Mauritius pays courtesy call on PM Jugnauth

The United Kingdom (UK) MP and Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Mauritius, Andrew Selous, paid a courtesy call today on the Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the New Treasury Building in Port-Louis.

In a statement, the UK’s Trade Envoy indicated that he is in Mauritius to attend the African Partnership Conference being hosted by Mauritius this week.

Selous highlighted that he has updated Prime Minister Jugnauth on the progress of the UK-Mauritius Strategic Trade Partnership (STP) signed on 17 April 2023. “We spoke of future projects and agreements in the pipeline as regards a range of priority sectors as well,” he stated.

The UK’s Trade Envoy further underlined the strong bilateral relations between both countries. At the same time, they added  that lots of progress can be achieved by both countries in particular in the area of renewable energy. “We are also looking into the UK export finances and the huge line of credit to Mauritius to assist Mauritius more on its journey to shift to renewable energy,” he said.

Additionally, Mr Selous lauded Mauritius for organising the African Partnership Conference really well with a good atmosphere. A lot of business will come out of this Conference as there is the opportunity particularly for the African Continent Free Trade Area to get more Intra African trade, the UK Trade Envoy underpinned.

Mr Selous highlighted that the UK is keen to get more British organisations based in Mauritius, especially in the renewable energy sector. Additionally, He also expressed optimism in tapping into more business opportunities with the African Investment Summit to be held in London in April 2024.
