In his address, Dr. Caussy stated that the purpose of the visit of the five international consultants is to further strengthen the ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Wellness and Narayana Health Institute of Bengaluru in India. The Ministry, he recalled, signed an MOU this year with Narayana Health Institute so that Mauritian patients can be sent abroad for surgery.

Dr Caussy underlined the importance of seeking international collaboration as Government offers free healthcare services for treatments or surgeries that cannot be provided locally. The Ministry, he pointed out, has an agreement with several hospitals and institutions of various countries so as to provide support in the medical and surgical treatment of new-borns, children and adults.

Furthermore, Dr Caussy underscored that the Ministry has an Overseas Treatment Centre in order to facilitate the transfer of patients from Mauritius to different hospitals abroad. He added that, as from this year, Government will fund the total cost of surgeries and treatments for paediatric cases not available in public hospitals.

It is recalled that the five Specialist Doctors will, during their visit, share their expertise, assist Mauritian doctors and perform surgeries.
