Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis:Â Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew officially commissioned the first Sustainable Energy Storage System in the Sunset Reef Resort, located in Palmetto Point, on Tuesday. The initiative marked a significant step towards a green and sustainable future for the country.Â
The Sunset Reef Resort is a 5-star boutique hotel recognized regionally and internationally for its sustainable practices. The activation of sustainable energy storage systems has inspired positive change throughout the Caribbean region.
The leader of St Kitts and Nevis took to his official social media handle (Facebook) to share this information with the citizens in the Federation.Â
“Todays marks a historic moment in Saint Kitts and Nevis as Sunset Reef Resort, a 5-star boutique resort located in Palmetto Point, proudly activated its Sustainable Energy Storage System, making it the first of its kind not just in Saint Kitts and Nevis, but the entire Caribbean region”, added PM Drew.Â
It is to be noted that the resort is currently harnessing renewable energy sources like solar power and is able to store the energy efficiently, and operating at 100 per cent green energy.Â
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Drew, Minister responsible for Energy- Konris Maynard and the owner of Sunset Reef Resort- David Fletcher.Â
PM Drew encouraged the citizens to ‘celebrate this monumental step towards a greener and more sustainable future for St Kitts and Nevis.’ The step begins the chain to achieve sustainable, eco-friendly practices in its operations.Â
The Minister of Energy Maynard, through his Facebook handle, wrote about the government’s vision to transform the country into a sustainable island state.Â
“By integrating solar power into its operations and leveraging efficient energy storage, Sunset Reef St Kitts exemplifies our vision for a sustainable island state. The activation of this system, witnessed by Prime Minister Hon Dr Terrance Drew, myself as Minister of Energy, and resort owner David Fletcher, marks a significant stride towards our commitment to renewable energy and environmental stewardship”, remarked Maynard.Â
PM Drew expressed his commitment and dedication to promoting sustainable living standards for the people in the twin-island Federation.
