The Police of Nigeria of Kano Command has disclosed that it has thwarted a car loaded with bomb-making material and two AK47 rifles in the state.
SP Abdullahi, the spokesman for the command, said in a statement that the crackdown was because of an intelligence report on the vehicle.
On 19 May, after following an intelligence report that stated a Mercedes Benz Motor Vehicle, ask colour with doubted sophisticated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) is travelling from Jigawa State to Kano State.
CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, the Police Commissioner of Kano State Command, immediately conducted a crack team consisting of Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological Radiological and Nuclear Defence (EOD-CBRN) and Operation Puff Adder.
He further said that after a chase of the suspected vehicle on the same date, the suspects left the vehicle at Bubbugaje Quarters, Kumbotso’s local government area of the state, stating that a technical search led by the team disclosed that the vehicle was fully filled with the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) materials.
Four (4) AK-47 magazines, two (2) AK-47 rifles, two (2) pistol magazines and one thousand and ninety-eight (1,098) live ammunition were also recovered.
The police statement said that an investigation had started. This is after what seems to be like a terrorist attack at the Aba road area, Sabon Gari of Fagge local government, as per a more detailed report of the police.
As per the statement, the commissioner of police of the state, Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, thanked the state’s people, sister security agencies, the state government, religious leaders, traditional rulers, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Civil Liberty Organisations (CLOs) and Community Policing Stakeholders for their prayers, continuous support, encouragement and cooperation.
He requested residents to continue being alert and report any type of suspiciousness regarding any person, item or incidence to their nearest Police Station and not take laws into their hands.
