Nigeria: Gunmen in the Anambra State have beheaded a lawmaker Okechukwu Okoye, who was representing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s constituency in the state’s House of Assembly.

Eyewitnesses have told that Okoye’s head was dumped around Chisco park in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area, on Saturday, 21 May, six days after being kidnapped.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident on the night of Saturday.

While reacting to the murder, Governor Charles Soludo criticised the brutal killing of the lawmaker and expressed his condolences to his family.

In a statement, Soludo, alongside with his media partner, Christian Aburime, described the murder of the lawmaker as vicious and heartless, saying he got the news with rude shock and deep sorrow.

As per him, it is possibly the same criminal gang that attacked him and also killed three police officers at Isuofia two years ago, and that is again on the search.

The governor also comforted the citizens of Anambra State of his administration’s resolve and restored determination with the security agencies to go against the criminals and assure the victims are brought to justice.

He also placed an N10 million reward for anyone or group that will provide valuable information that will lead to the immediate arrest of the wrongdoers of the brutal act.

A statement was passed that read, “Soludo condoles with his relatives of Isuofia, noting that it is likely the same criminals that attacked him and murdered three policemen at Isuofia two years ago and are once again on the prowl. But they can never enter the Isuofia and Anambra State.”

“The governor is still in shock over the brutal acts against his two relatives, vowing that the perpetrators and all criminals operating in Anambra must be decisively brought to book.
