Google has shared on their blog site that they have blocked more than 50,000 forms of various content that were shared by certain pro china accounts. The content was shared across various media websites and platforms such as Blogger, youtube and AdSense and such.
The Threat Analysis Group (TAG) of Google shared this information on Thursday, January 26, 2023. In the update, they informed the public that the group they blocked was alternatively known as dragon bridge and Spamouflage Dragon. The group shares major pro china content. Additionally, it includes a high volume of Anti-US content.
As per the information available on the blog site, the group mainly targets Chinese speakers. However, some of the content was also in English and other languages.
Meanwhile, the duty of the Threat Analysis Group is to understand and deal with serious threats. These include dealing with actors who are engaged in coordinated information operations.
TAG further shared the statistics of the Dragonbridge. They have terminated over 100,000 accounts associated with the group. In spite of the scale of the operation, Dragonbridge did not get any organic engagement throughout the last year. At the time google disrupted the accounts, several dragonbridge accounts had zero subscribers. Their videos, further also did not have more than 100 views.
However, When these accounts did receive engagement, it was from inauthentic sources. Additionally, they noted that the view and commenting activity came from other dragon bridge accounts.
The same was true for dragon bridge blog accounts. The majority of these blogs have almost no authentic engagement. 95 per cent of these blogs received ten or lesser views. Meanwhile, 96% of these accounts received no comments.
The content of these blogs includes:
Praising china’s response to the covid-19 pandemic
Criticizing pro democracy protests
Supporting China’s unification with Taiwan.
Criticism of the United States
among other things.
