Mu’azu Sambo, the newly appointed Minister of State for Works and Housing, stated on Wednesday that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has selected the correct path for infrastructure development in the nation.
He made a note of this when he took up his new position on Wednesday and was greeted by the Permanent Secretary, Babangida Hussaini, as well as other ministry staff members.
Sambo said that Nigerians who were sceptical of Buhari’s ability would only come to appreciate his significance once his presidency came to an end.
“Mr. President is a gift to this country,” says the speaker. I keep stating that the sceptics will not see this until his excellency is no longer alive and able to speak for himself. The president has chosen the right path, but some of us who understand that socio-economic progress is related to large scale infrastructure development believe he has made the right decision,” he stated.
He pointed out that infrastructure development was critical to the socio-economic development of any country, regardless of its size. He cited China and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates as examples of countries that have gained competitive advantages as a result of their infrastructure development.
He stated that he would be satisfied if he was able to assist the president in “leaving some legacies behind in infrastructure development around the country” during his tenure in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation.
Babatunde Fashola (SAN), his senior colleague, whom he regarded as a man of exceptional intellect, competence, and a strong desire to see Nigeria prosper, indicated his willingness to collaborate in a peaceful manner with him.
As a team player, you can count on me to deliver results. I intend to collaborate and work as closely as possible with Mr. Babatunde Fashola, whom I have known since my days in Lagos as a man of great intellect and competence, as well as a man who is passionate about development. In his words, “I am fully prepared to assist him in fulfilling the objectives of Mr. President.”
