Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, sports and The Art, Kenya Ababu Namwamba hosted Duncan Maina Mathenge. He is the Nyeri Town Member of Parliament. The CS and Duncan Maina Mathenge’s meeting occurred on August 1, 2023. Mathenge paid Courtesy Call to the Cabinet Secretary.

During the meeting, they discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to national security. The list included cooperation between the Nyeri Town constituency and the Federal Government in youth affairs, sports, and the creative arts, among other issues of importance.

The two leaders have also discussed the development of the country’s sports infrastructure. The current status of the Ruringu Stadium and its ongoing construction was top of their discussion. During the conference, Cabinet Secretary assured Mathenge of the Government’s commitment. He sought to ensure that the Government works on the historic Ruringu Stadium to the standards established under the Ministry’s infrastructure masterplan.

The Cabinet Secretary also added that they would create a multipurpose indoor facility beside the Main Stadium. The facility will work towards catering for indoor sporting activities like basketball and Volleyball owing to Nyeri County’s status as a well-known volleyball powerhouse nationally.

The Cabinet Secretary assured the Legislator that his Ministry would partner with him to establish a Talent Academy in Ruringu. The Talent Academy will complement the Government’s #TalantaHela initiative. Under this initiative, the Government seeks to tap, develop and nurture talents to monetise them and build sustainable livelihoods.
