Mpumalanga, South Africa: The MEC for Health in Mpumalanga, Sasekani Manzini, on Thursday, 28 September 2023, received two Mobile Clinics on behalf of the department from Goedehoop Colliery – Thungela mine. The Steve Tshwete Local Municipality took to their social media account to share some glimpses of the handover .
The MEC was accompanied by Executive Mayor Cllr Mhlonishwa Masilela, who set the tone for the event. He said, “I received requests from ward four residents crying that they need a clinic due to the distance they have to travel to access health services. I decided to take it upon myself to make calls to private stakeholders, and Thungela Mine said they will provide as part of their Social Labour Plan.”
During the handing over of the mobile clinics to the department, the General Manager of Goedehoop Colliery, Tman Mphokane, mentioned that this is an extremely important gift. She believes that it will positively reduce barriers to accessing healthcare services by bringing primary healthcare services closer to the isolated and vulnerable groups.
Mpumi Sitho, Executive head of Corporate Affairs, also spoke at the event during the handover ceremony. She said, “This is the start of a good relationship, and we hope the next time we meet, we will be handing over a fully-fledged clinic to the community members.
When giving the keynote address, MEC Manzini pleaded with the community to utilize the mobile clinics for their well-being, more specifically for men and the youth. “A mobile clinic is equipped the same as a stationed clinic, there is “Cheka impilo” prevention is better than cure let’s take care of our health.
In attendance at the event was also the the Head of Department, Dr LK Ndhlovu, Nkangala Health District Manager- Joshua Mmothlame, Chief Director:Primary Health Care,Dr C Nelson and officials from Provincial and District offices.
