Dominica’s Olympic Gold Medalist, Thea Lafond-Gadson made her first visit to her homeland since winning the historic title in Triple Jump at the Paris Olympics 2024. During her visit she paid a courtesy call to the Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit at his office, where they discussed about the Dominica’s sports development.
It is to be noted that the Olympic Gold Medalist Thea LaFond-Gadson reached Dominica after clinching the first ever gold for Dominica on August 24 and since then the Government and the residents of the country are celebrating her victory.
On August 27th Thea Lafond along with her husband and coach Aaron Gadson visited Prime Minister’s Office to meet him and have a discussion of the Dominica’s sports sector and regarding the upcoming plans that the government is about to implement that would help the young athletes of the country to sharpen their skills.
Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit shared a glimpse of Thea’s visit to his office with her husband and the attendance of several other officials. On his official Facebook Page, PM Skerrit stated that he had the ‘privilege’ to receive a courtesy call from Olympic Gold Medalist Thea LaFond-Gadson and her coach.
PM Skerrit further shared that it was an honour to personally congratulate the Olympic Champion on her remarkable performance at the Paris Olympics.
During the meeting they discussed about the shared vision for advancing sports development in Dominica. This meeting will turn out be a significant booster in the development of the sports sector. Also, during the Celebration Ceremony PM Skerrit announced that she will be appointed Sports Ambassador for Dominica.
It was also announced that the Government of Dominica will proceed with the construction of a synthetic track facility to be named the Thea LaFond-Gadson Track & Field Complex upon completion.
These initiatives will open paths for the youngsters of the country to participate in sports and to motivate them to become the next Thea Lafond and bring laurels to the country.
Additionally, as part of the ongoing activities to celebrate Thea’s achievements, the Government of Dominica will host a reception in her honour at the State House Conference Center on Wednesday.
Also, Thea Lafond marked a visit to Mahaut Primary School where she was honoured and then she interacted with the young minds of Dominica and motivated them to follow their passion and keep working hard.
As part of the celebration, the golden girl has received a cash gift of $400,000.00; a 7,459 square-feet lot in Warner. Additionally, the Olympic Champion and her husband and coach Aaron Gadson will receive diplomatic passports.
