In a proactive move to curb criminal activities, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command executed a series of well-coordinated raids on identified black spots and criminal hideouts in Abuja’s Durumi and Dei-Dei areas between March 31 and April 4, 2024. The crackdown led to the arrest of 85 suspects involved in various offences.
Confirming the success of the operations, SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, revealed that the targeted hideouts had long been notorious for harbouring hoodlums and facilitating a range of criminal activities.
These activities included the establishment of illegal structures and shanties for drug peddling and the production of counterfeit currencies.
During the raids, law enforcement officers executed search warrants on several structures within the identified areas.
The searches yielded a plethora of incriminating evidence, including counterfeit paper and coins of both local and foreign currencies, light weapons, eight motorcycles, seven generators, electronic gadgets, and a significant number of ATM cards suspected to have been stolen from their rightful owners.
“All the arrested suspects will undergo thorough screening, and those found culpable will be duly profiled and arraigned in court,” stated SP Josephine Adeh, emphasizing the commitment of the FCT Police Command to ensuring justice and accountability.
Furthermore, to deter criminals from re-establishing their operations in the area, the illegal wooden structures erected by the hoodlums were dismantled and subsequently set ablaze under the watchful eyes of law enforcement personnel.
In response to inquiries, the Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, reiterated his unwavering dedication to eradicating criminal elements from the territory.
