The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) said that Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment and Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, the Minister of State for Education, should give their resignation and drop the 2023 presidential race.
The student body stated their worries over what it called “people who do not have any credible past or even present can now come out to express their aspiration for the president’s office without shame” under the shadow of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
As per NANS, President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has “degraded the president’s office so much” that the likes of Nwajiuba and Ngige can have themselves in the presidential race.
In a statement given on Thursday, 5 May, NANS said, “Many of such dissatisfaction is the embarrassing declaration of intention and purchase of interest form by the pair of the Minister for Labour and the Minister of State for Education, Chris Ngige and Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba respectively.”
Further speaking, Damilola Simeon, the Ogun State Chairman of NANS, stated that Nwajiuba and Ngige have failed to settle the ongoing ASUU strike, among other conflicts facing the ministries they both lead.
“By norms, failures like Nwajiuba and Ngige must resign from their places and tender an open apology to Nigerian pupils and their parents for failing to settle the situation in the education sector.”
As per the student union, the leaders have raised their shamelessness by demonstrating their intention to run for the most crucial office of the federation.
If Buhari had been responsive and sensitive toward national concerns, both men should have been presented with letters of dismissal as Ministers, not after 24 hours after their official declaration.
“Our concern is also that these people purchasing the interest form of the APC and their partners in PDP for as much as N100 million and N40 million, respectively, lack conscience,” the student union said.
