Delta State Government releases names of sexual offenders to deter further criminal activities

Delta State Government released the names of some convicted sex offenders on Monday, August 22, 2022, as a deterrent to those who may want to be involved in the act and discourage people from indulging in sexual crimes and other related offences.

Head of the Anti-Sexual Offences Unit in the state’s Ministry of Justice, Mrs Uche Patricia Akamagwuna, who disclosed the list of these names in Asaba, said that the government’s action was in accordance with Section 5 of the Violence Against Persons Law 2020.

Akamagwuna stated that the policy aimed to ensure that sexual offenders were named and shamed. Further, she added that the names of the offenders would be published on the Delta State Ministry of Justice sex offenders’ register and on the media. The pictures of such offenders will also be printed and pasted in their last sightings and residence places.

The first set of sex offenders featured in the list to be shamed include the 46-year-old Lukman Yunusa, an indigene of Osun State. He was formerly a resident of No 5, Jarret Street, Asaba. Later, he was convicted for the rape of a 10-year-old girl and sentenced to 25 years imprisonment at the Correctional Centre in Ogwashi-uku.

Endurance Oyemike, a 44-year-old native of Ogume in Ndokwa West Local Council of the state also featured in the list of sexual offenders. He is a former resident of Ogbe-Echila Street, Ogbe-Ogume. He is currently serving ten years imprisonment with hard labour at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Kwale, after being convicted of rape.

Friday Nweke, a 34-year-old indigene of Odalekor Village in Nkwor Local Council of Ebonyi State and a former resident of Transformer Camp, Ominigboma in Oko, has also been registered as a sex offender.

Nweke is presently serving a life imprisonment term at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Warri, for the rape of a six-year-old girl.

33-year-old Ossai Mishark from Ossissa in Ndokwa West Local Council is already serving a six-year imprisonment term at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Kwale, for the rape of a 42-year-old woman. His name is also featured in the sexual offenders’ register.

Pastor Frank Osehdi, a pastor of Sure Fire Ministry, Kwale, who is 46 years old and a native of Isoko North Local Council and a former resident of Iyatu by Asaba Expressway, Kwale, is also serving seven years imprisonment term at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Kwale, for raping an 18-year-old girl.
