Nigeria has outperformed South Africa and became the leading African team in the medals list of the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 being held at Birmingham, United Kingdom, with another gold medal to its total tally, making it 33.
On the 8th Day of games, Friday, August 05, Team Nigeria followed South Africa at the 8th position, with a total of 16 medals; seven gold, three silver and six Bronze.
But on Day 9, Saturday, August 06, the Nigerian athletes conquered the Women’s F55-57 Shot Put event, with Eucharia Iyayi grabbing the first position and a gold medal while Ugochi Alam bagged the Bronze.
Iyiazi made a new record at the Commonwealth Games of 10.03m to win the gold medal for her home country.
On the other hand, the Nigerian women’s 4x100m relay quartet of Favour Ofili, Joy Udo-Gabriel, Rosemary Chukwuma and Grace Nzubechi Nwokocha took a step closer to creating history as the first women’s relay team to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Nigeria is no. 6 on the medal table with 11 Gold, 8 Silver and 14 Bronze, making a total of 33 medals during the final Day.
