World: Indian Olympic star once again created history after clinching the title of Diamond League in the men’s javelin throw event. He registered the best throw of 88.44m in his second attempt. While winning the Diamond League title, the Olympic star became the first Indian player to achieve the title.
He made a spectacular return after a month-long injury layoff in the Lausanne leg of the Diamond League series, and the finals of the 2022 edition turned out to be great for him when he registered the best throw of 89.08 m to clinch the top spot.
Chopra had missed the 2022 Commonwealth Game due to an injury, but he secured the silver medal in the World Championships in July,
Firstly he doesn’t get a good start in the Diamond League Finals after making a foul throw in the very first throw. Jakub Valdejch of the Czech Republic throws his best of 84.15m in his first attempt. While making a remarkable comeback, Chopra threw a best of 88.44 and jumped from sixth to the top spot.
He further followed up with another string 88m throw in the event, which also remained the second-best throw after the completion of three attempts. Valdejch also made a comeback on his fourth attempt as he registered his best throw of the event at 86.94 m but it wasn’t enough to go past India’s Olympic champion, who threw 86.11m and 87m long in the fourth ad fifth attempts, respectively. Chopra further ended the competition with an 83.60m throw.
Valdejch stood second with his best throw coming in the fourth attempt (86.94m), while Germany’s Julian Weber was third with 83.73m throw (third attempt).
