In a significant enforcement operation, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has shut down several businesses, including churches, hotels, bars, and other establishments, for failing to comply with the state’s environmental laws.
The crackdown, which took place in areas such as Mushin, Amuwo Odofin, and Okota Isolo, is part of LASEPA’s ongoing efforts to address environmental violations, particularly noise pollution, in Lagos.
The announcement of the operation was made in a statement shared by LASEPA on Thursday through its verified social media account.
According to the agency, the businesses were sealed off for ignoring prior warnings and failing to meet the required environmental standards.
The establishments affected include Daily Bakery, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Gak Universal Allied Limited, Ideal Standard, Franjane Royal Suites, Golden Haven Resort & Suites, Festival Hotel Conference Centre & SPA, FS Service Centre, and Moulin Rouge Ventures at Olivia Mall.
Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, the General Manager of LASEPA, emphasized the agency’s firm stance on environmental protection, reiterating its zero-tolerance policy for any violations that negatively impact public health and the overall well-being of Lagos residents.
“Noise pollution, improper siting of hazardous facilities, and other infractions significantly affect public health and quality of life,” Dr. Ajayi stated. “We urge businesses and individuals to prioritize compliance and adopt sustainable practices.”
