The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan ahead of the 10th Edition of the Lagos Women Run, scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 8, from 6:00 a.m.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, revealed the details in a statement on Thursday, urging residents to cooperate with traffic officials and plan their movements accordingly.
According to Osiyemi, the 10-kilometre race—organised by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) in collaboration with other partners—will begin at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) and conclude at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
To facilitate the event, he said there would be partial road closures along key city routes including TBS, Water Board, Old NITEL, Outer Marina, Officers Mess, Bonny Camp Bridge, State House, and Ahmadu Bello Way.
Other affected roads include Akin Adesola Street, Falomo Bridge, Falomo Roundabout, Awolowo Road, Onikan Roundabout, and the Mobolaji Johnson Arena area.
Osiyemi added that personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps would be deployed to manage the situation.
“The presence of traffic and safety officers will ensure a smooth and safe experience for participants and residents during the race period,” he assured.
He also highlighted the importance of motorists following alternative routes and adhering strictly to road advisories provided during the event.
“Traffic from Ozumba Mbadiwe heading to the Third Mainland Bridge should pass through Bonny Camp to the Onikan Underpass, then link Marina Exit to Force Road, and continue via Outer Marina to the bridge,” Osiyemi explained.
He further advised that “motorists from Apongbon heading to Ikoyi should use Odunlami Street to link Igbosere Road, then proceed through Moloney Street to connect Ikoyi Road.”
The commissioner appealed for patience and understanding, noting that the restrictions are temporary and aimed at ensuring safety and minimal congestion during the race.
He commended the public’s support in previous editions and expressed confidence that this year’s event would run smoothly, celebrating women’s participation in sports and fitness.
The Lagos Women Run, now in its 10th year, has become one of the state’s signature sporting events, promoting women’s health, unity, and empowerment across diverse communities.
Residents are therefore encouraged to plan ahead, use designated routes, and stay updated through official communication channels to avoid unnecessary delays on Saturday morning.
