Katsina State Government organises three-day training for stakeholders regarding hygiene

The Katsina State Government has organised a three-day training programme for around 120 stakeholders around the state of Nigeria regarding the behavioural change, hygiene promotion as well as sustainability. 

The Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Musa Funtua, who announced the event opened on Wednesday, July 20 in Katsina, stated that the training was to support the Clean Nigeria: Use the Toilet programme.

As per him, the programme is a World Bank project which strives to ensure the cleanliness of rural communities and also to promote the hygiene of the region.

The commissioner further added that for such a programme to support the communities, it had to reach the roots, highlighting that is the reason behind the training of trainees so that they could step it down to roots.

He stated that the state government under governor Aminu Masari had spent a lot in this sector, mainly via the provision of clean and potable water, while adding that Katsina State was proclaimed the best in environmental sanitation and provision of drinkable drinking water out of the seven benefitting states for the SURWASH programme.

Dr Sama’ila Mua’azu-Bawa, a SURWASH Programme Coordinator in the state, stated the goal of the training is also to promote sanitation in these communities and enhance water supply in urban and rural regions. 

As per him, the training is to highlight the significant stakeholders, particularly the local governments, in their engagement in hygiene promotion.

At the local governments, he said that they have the Water and Sanitation Hygiene Services (WASH), which is why they invited all the directors from the 34 local government areas.

He added that same goes for the Desk Officers from the Clean Nigeria: Use the Toilet Project and even the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) who act as stakeholders in the programme.
