Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South in the National Assembly, has officially married his new wife, Flying Officer Hindatu Isah, in a modest ceremony held in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State.
The event, which took place over the weekend, brought together family members and select political associates, reflecting the senator’s preference for a private and traditional celebration.
The bride, Hindatu Isah, hails from Rano and serves as a Flying Officer in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), making the union one that blends public service and political prominence. The ceremony took place at the residence of the Madakin Rano, Ada’u Isah, who is also the bride’s father.
Ada’u Isah previously served as the member representing Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The groom’s family was represented by Dahiru Adda’u, a retired state permanent secretary, with additional support from Auwalu Rano, Chairman of the A.A. Rano Group. The bride price of N500,000 was paid as part of the traditional rites, confirming the marriage. The formal proceedings were presided over by Yusuf Sumaila.
Among the guests was Hon. Kabiru Alhassan, a member of the House of Representatives representing Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure. He joined other guests in witnessing the union, which maintained a simple, respectful tone in line with cultural practices.
Senator Sumaila, a two-term member of the House of Representatives and former presidential aide, is known for his grassroots political influence in Kano. His marriage to a serving military officer has drawn warm reactions from well-wishers who commended the senator for choosing simplicity and respect for tradition despite his political standing.
The ceremony was conducted under Islamic rites and was far from the fanfare that usually surrounds the weddings of public figures, reflecting a subtle approach by the senator and his new wife.
As congratulations poured in, many praised the union as a testament to tradition, public service, and a reminder of the value of modesty in private.
