Ibrahim Babangida, a former military president, believes Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is the greatest candidate to lead Nigeria in 2023.
On Thursday, Mr Babangida made the remarks when receiving the Osibanjo Grassroot Organization at his Hill Top mansion in Minna, Niger’s capital.
Osinbajo was exhorted to remain focused and steadfast.
“Osinbajo has a great enthusiasm for Nigeria, he can speak with the country and motivate people, and he is the finest person to lead Nigeria in 2023,” according to the report.
“I am extremely familiar with the vice president; he is a nice man; a man who believes in Nigeria; a man who can speak with the country and inspire people.”
“Such a man is deserving of our attention; we need a good man to lead Nigeria; a man who cares about the country’s economy; Nigeria is a good country; Nigerians are good.”
“I want you to communicate my best wishes to the vice president through you, and I want you to advise him to keep the path; I know it’s not easy, but he has the conviction; I wish him the best.”
The former military chief informed the gathering that he agreed to speak to them because of Vice President Osinbajo’s character and his belief that he had what it takes to govern the country.
Ojo Foluso, the organization’s National Convener, said the group was pleased with Mr Babangida’s endorsement.
He explained, “We came to consult the oracle, and the oracle has spoken; IBB is an oracle because he understands Nigeria.”
He promised that the organisation would keep putting pressure on Mr. Osibanjo to declare his intention in running for president in 2023.
Emma Ejiofor, the team’s leader, stated that the organisation was willing to collaborate with notable citizens such as Babangida because of their extensive knowledge and awareness of Nigeria.
Nigeria, he argued, was in desperate need of leaders who were committed to the country’s progress.
