Anambra Landlady attacks tenent over rise in rent, inability to pay

The Police force of Anambra state has arrested a woman identified as Amaka Okonkwo for allegedly pouring hot water on her tenant. The said hot water had pepper mixed with it. The woman took such a step over the rent increment in Anambra State on Thursday, August 17, 2023.

The shocking incident happened in Enugwu-Ukwu, in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state. The police force interviewed the victim of the incident, after the fact.

Reports have suggested that the victim, Imabong William, from Akwa Ibom is currently receiving treatment at a Hospital in Nawfia. The reports indicate that the culprit of the incident, the landlady asked the victim to vacate the house. This happened because the victim was unable to pay the new rent increment. The victim stated that her previous rent agreement expired last month.

While talking to the media, the victim explained that she asked for time. If the landlady was to give her time, she could get a new place. However, the landlady lost her patience with her tenant. Accordingly, while the victim was washing her clothes on Thursday, the landlady poured her hot water mixed with pepper from behind.

The actions of the landlady caused the victim, her tenant to injure herself seriously. Some images of the victim’s burnt and severely injured back are doing rounds on the internet. The images show her back disfigured with boils.

The Anambra state Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Ify Obinabo recieved reports of the incident. She reacted to the incident on Saturday, August 19. She told the media that they have arrested the culprit, Amaka Okonkwo . She added that the she is currently at the Nimo police station.

The police reports suggest that they saw the husband of the suspect, Ebere Okonkwo at the hospital. At the time, they interrogated the man who denied involvement in his wife’s action. The husband stated that although he was at home at the time of the incident, he was unaware of the wife’s wicked intentions towards their tenant Imabong.
