The Police Command of the cross river area has confirmed that unknown armed individuals killed one of its personnel, Sgt. Peter Ikwen at Edgerton Street, Calabar. The incident happened on Saturday, October 29, 2022.


SP Irene Ugbo, the Police Public Relations officer in command of the Cross River area, confirmed the incident. She revealed to the media that the police officer was shot dead by unknown individuals. Following the incident, the assailants took his weapon rifle and escaped the scene of crime. The police officers have revealed no other details of the incident

Further, the police spokesperson revealed that the investigations into the incident have started. The police command is determined to unravel those behind the act.

Additionally, the Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, described the incident as condemnable.

The incident of the killing of a police officer in the Cross River area is not new. A few months ago, one of the Police officers serving in Cross River State Police Command was killed by armed individuals in Calabar. The identity of the police inspector was revealed to be Inspector Ngoro Edim. He was shot dead at a supermarket along the Federal Housing Estate Road 5 in Calabar Municipal local council, where he was out to shop for monthly groceries.

According to the sources, The armed men, in that case, were on a mission to kidnap the shop owner. However, when they saw the deceased police officer Edim in uniform, they shot him. Following this, the armed individuals escaped with their victims.

Reportedly, the police officer was taken to the nearby hospital so that he could receive treatment. However, he could not survive his injuries.
