The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has announced the election of seven new bishops and four archbishops to fill key positions within its dioceses and provinces.
The elections were held during the church’s Episcopal Synod on Monday, August 12, 2024, at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Maitama, Abuja.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the church’s Communication Officer, Korede Akintunde, the church disclosed the results of the elections, which were overseen by the Primate, Dr. Henry Ndukuba.
The announcement came as the Primate congratulated the newly elected leaders and offered prayers for their forthcoming responsibilities.
Dr. Ndukuba expressed his hopes that the newly elected bishops and archbishops would be granted wisdom, strength, and good health to effectively lead their respective dioceses and provinces.
He emphasized the importance of prayer and support from the church’s members for the newly elected leaders and their families as they transition into their new roles.
The primate also called on the new officeholders to seek divine guidance as they prepare for their responsibilities.
The consecration of the bishops-elect and the presentation of the archbishops-elect are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, during the church’s Standing Committee Meeting hosted by Nike Diocese in Enugu State.
The newly elected bishops are:
- Ephraim Gongdem for Jos Diocese.
- John Obinali for Okigwe Diocese.
- Sam Ike for Enugu Diocese.
- Godwin Odubena for Ijebu North Diocese.
- Bernard Hanson for Ahoada Diocese.
- Titus Alkali for Wusasa Diocese.
- Samuel Ifeyemi for Osun North Diocese.
The elected archbishops are:
- Sosthenes Eze, Bishop of Enugu North Diocese, Enugu Province.
- Israel Amao, Bishop of New Bussa Diocese, Kwara Province.
- Williams Aladekugbe, Bishop of Ibadan North Diocese, Ibadan Province.
- Daniel Yisa, Bishop of Minna Diocese, Lokoja Province.
This significant development within the Church of Nigeria marks a new chapter for the Anglican Communion as these leaders prepare to take on their roles in guiding and shepherding their respective dioceses and provinces.
