Nigeria: To ensure that children who are orphaned by, infected by, or at risk of HIV achieve social, economic and psychological well-being, Caritas Nigeria works in partnership with The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through CDC to create income-generating activities within the Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s (OVC) project.
Caritas Nigeria is the development arm of the Catholic Church in Nigeria and, by extension, a member of the Global Confederation of Caritas organizations, Caritas Internationalis.
The Caritas Nigeria announced various programs to accelerate HIV care and treatment services, especially in children.
Their 4GATES program integrates the OVC intervention, which has a high-achieving record of reducing educational barriers, accelerating HIV care & treatment services, and improving the economic outcomes of families in Abia, Delta, Enugu and Imo states.
Correspondingly, the Caritas Nigeria team in Enugu recently distributed business start-up tools to sixteen (16) out-of-school children who participated in the vocational skills training sessions organized in collaboration with the Justice, Development and Peace Commission of Nsukka Diocese. Twelve children received tailoring kits; 2 children received hairdressing tools; 1 child received barbing kits; 1 child received electrical wiring tools.
In the past five weeks, Caritas Nigeria engaged over 200 professionals in Project Management for Development Professionals (PMD Pro) foundation training. The intensive capacity strengthening exercise took place across our regional offices in Abia, Delta, Enugu and Imo states, as well as our country office in Abuja. PMD Pro extensively discusses the processes, skills, tools and techniques involved in managing projects from their conception to completion.
As an approved training organization, Caritas Nigeria offers training and consulting services to civil society organizations, multilateral organizations, international/local non-governmental organizations (I/NGOs), and government agencies through the PMD Pro certification course, which is designed to meet systems strengthening needs.
Ultimately, the activity enhanced the project management skills of the staff of Caritas Nigeria and other I/NGOs who participated as follows; Abia (59), Abuja (30), Delta (56), Enugu (40), and Imo (45).
