Bauchi, Nigeria – The Aliko Dangote Foundation has donated 25,000 bags of rice to the less privileged in Bauchi State as part of its annual Ramadan palliative distribution effort. The initiative aims to alleviate economic hardship, particularly during the fasting period.
Speaking during the distribution event in Bauchi on Tuesday, Ahmed Hashim, a representative of the Dangote Foundation, reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to providing essential food supplies to both privileged and less privileged members of society.
The donated rice, packaged in 10-kilogram bags, was intended to support fasting individuals during Ramadan.
“This is the second edition. Last year, all the local government areas in Nigeria, through their state governments, received one million bags of Nigerian rice of 10 kg. This year again, we are doing the same thing,” Hashim stated.
He further explained that Bauchi was the second state to respond to the initiative after Kano when letters were sent from Abuja to the state liaison offices regarding the food relief program.
Commitment to Alleviating Hardship
The Aliko Dangote Foundation has been actively involved in various humanitarian efforts, including healthcare support, educational infrastructure development, and contributions to the fight against COVID-19.
According to Hashim, the foundation views the annual Ramadan food distribution as a crucial initiative to mitigate economic challenges faced by many Nigerians.
“This is the foundation’s token contribution apart from what the state governments are doing to alleviate the suffering of the people, especially amidst economic difficulties,” he added.
Government’s Acknowledgment and Distribution Strategy
Hajara Wanka, Bauchi State’s Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, praised the Dangote Foundation for its benevolence.
She highlighted that the food relief would be distributed across all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state, ensuring equitable access.
“Out of the 25,000 10kg bags of rice, 500 will be distributed to each of the 20 Local Government Areas.”
“Additionally, 10,000 bags will be allocated to mosques and churches, recognizing that the Christian community is also observing their annual fasting period. Furthermore, 5,000 bags will be allocated to critical stakeholders in the state,” Wanka stated.
Continued Philanthropic Efforts
The Dangote Foundation has consistently played a significant role in addressing humanitarian needs across Nigeria.
Beyond food distribution, the foundation has supported medical interventions, funded hostel and faculty constructions in universities, and contributed significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Nigeria grapples with economic challenges, corporate social responsibility initiatives like this remain vital in supporting vulnerable populations.
With this latest donation, thousands of families in Bauchi State will receive much-needed relief during the holy month of Ramadan, reinforcing the foundation’s longstanding commitment to social welfare.
The distribution exercise, carried out in collaboration with local authorities, religious institutions, and humanitarian agencies, ensures that the food aid reaches those in genuine need, further strengthening community resilience amid prevailing economic hardships.
