Good Governance Advocate and media personality Ambassador Timothy Nwachukwu took to his social media to share his views about unemployment in the nation. He has also urged the youngsters to start volunteering their time in Government and Private sector establishments. Earlier, he had written a long, reflective article on the issue, highlighting how unemployment is rising in the country. Recently, he reflected on the unemployment problem in a social media post.

He expressed that youngsters with employment requests in Federal Government establishments often approach him. However, the government cannot employ every single graduate in its establishment. In most cases, the answer you will get is that there is no ongoing employment in such a federal Ministry.

Ambassador Nwachukwu shared that he visited a Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Abuja Director. The meeting took place some months ago, discussing issues affecting young people in Nigeria. The prime topic of discussion was the unemployment crisis.

The Director informed Ambassador Nwachukwu how his relative came to his House in Abuja and pleaded with him to help him secure a federal job. He tried and reached out to some top allies of his in the Ministry. However, unfortunately, he could not guarantee the job for the said relative. Here, Ambassador Timothy Nwachukwu observed that many young people are yet to realise that despite a scarcity of government jobs, there is room for Volunteering in both government and private sectors.

Accordingly, he noted I encourage young people to volunteer their skills to both Public and private establishments. It will give room and provide ample opportunity for such a young person to garner the needed experience mostly required by employers.

He added that when you are volunteering for an organisation, there is a 100 per cent possibility that you can be considered for retainers once the opportunity shows itself. Most importantly, he asserted, please do not joke with your social media presence. He observed that private-sector employers usually go through the social media handle of their intended employees. Ensure that you post or share important information or discussion.
