New coastal smart city planned for South Africa

Mabuyane said that the project was still going through the planning and design phase and other required things.

The plan of the Smart city was initiate with the motive of gaining attention of investors and encourage the tourism sector.

President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa said during a roadshow in November the development will attract new investors to invest and will help to create new opportunities for locals.

After President Cyril Ramaphosa’s roadshow on the eastern seaboard towards the end of 2021, the African Coastal Smart City project is accumulating at a speedy rate.

Investors have expressed their interest in the area already, and the project will be the game-changer for the development of Wild coast.

The Coega ( Special Economic Zone ) select to manage projects to keep an eye on the Eastern Cape side of the programme.

The plan for a new smart city on South Africa’s East Coast was introduced by cooperative governance and traditional affairs (Cogta) minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma at the ANC’s NEC lekgotla in September 2021.

Dlamini-Zuma highlighted the project of a coastal city would help decrease the unemployment rate, promote tourism and help to reduce the migration rate in between Port St Johns and Margate on the country’s Wild Coast region.

Because of unemployment and less resource of income, a large number of people migrate to another city.

President added that the government is also planning to use it as a significant outline for developing the eastern seaboard and for the developing the east seaboard would use its new district development as a substantial line.

He further asserted that the government with existing infrastructure project portfolios and with credible project pipeline with the detail needed for investors, encouraging them to invest in the area.

For the clarification on various programmes, the district Development Model approach will ensure better alignment with government structures, PM added.
