Nigeria: The Police in Abuja paraded over 31 accused caught by the IGP Special Tactical Squad, STS, for various crimes such as armed robbery, rape, kidnapping, culpable homicide, unlawful possession of arms and ammunition, with two of these paraded being members of the gang that kidnapped students of Bethel Baptist High School and Greenfield University located in Kaduna.
Both of these men said during the period, the victims of the Greenfield Varsity and Bethel Baptist School attacks were in their custody, they took some of the girl students to a different place, raped them and then shot them after they received ransom from their families.
In July 2021, 140 students of Bethel Baptist High School in Kujama were kidnapped, while 16 other students of Greenfield University at the Kaduna–Abuja highway were also kidnapped in May 2021.
Aminu, who stated he came from Kaduna State, that they and other members of Yellow Ashana’s gang had been accountable for many of the kidnappings along the Abuja-Kaduna highway, commenting that Yellow transformed him from being an Okada rider to kidnapping because it was more profitable.
The gang of six-man, including Salisu Muhammed, Salisu Abdullahi and Yusuf Usman, stated they had been working as a team for over three years.
Salisu Abdullahi, their leader, said the gang had six AK 47 rifles. He was caught by the police while trying to buy 150 live ammunition along with ten pieces of military camouflage for one of their operations.
Salisu further stated that they sometimes got information regarding their victims from their security guards at Hausa, even as he said that their hideout area was in the Kasala area located in Kubwa.
CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, Force PRO, stated that the members of the gang were seized after kidnapping a victim, from whom they asked for a ransom of N30 million.
