The world’s longest cable car in Dominica will be offering access to the stunning Boiling Lake in just 20 minutes. The construction of cable car will play a significant role in boosting tourism, enhancing the local economies, and creating a wide range of job opportunities for the citizens and residents of the country.
The Project Manager Randall Gliege shared an update during his official site visit, in which he was accompanied by Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, Housing Minister Melissa Skerrit and Tourism Minister Denise Charles.
As per the recent update, the construction of the cable car is 60% complete and the construction is expected to complete by the end of 2025.
Features of the Cable Car
The cable car will extend over 6600 meters (6 miles) and will feature two stations and 20 support towers. It will take visitors from Roseau to one of the island’s most stunning natural sites, the Boiling Lake.
Moreover, 290 locals have been employed for this project, from across the island including Portsmouth, Scottshead, Pointe Mitchell and Roseau Valley.
The cable car has a total of 10 cabins and each cabin can carry 10 people at once, meaning 100 people can visit the Boiling Lake in just 20 minutes.
Phases of construction of the cable car
The first phase of constructing the cable car was building its foundation, with the next phase involving construction of the 20 tower components that will include meetings with experts from the Ropeway Manufacture in February.
Randall Gliege said they are heavily into foundation work but the steel and machinery part will be starting within a month.
Boosting Tourism and employment opportunities
The cable car will help boost tourism in Dominica as many tourists will visit the country to see and ride the world’s longest cable car.
Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit said that shops, restaurants, cafes, and even souvenir shops will also be built to provide job opportunities to locals.
Moreover, tour guides will also profit from this project as they can guide visitors to various parts of Dominica while riding the cable car.

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit said during the visit that he is pleased with the progress of the cable car and that the completion of this project will increase visitor arrival that would increase consumption of local goods, bringing in more foreign exchange.
He further asked the locals to take advantage of this ‘ambitious project’ and to benefit from it directly or indirectly.
