A 21-year-old female disclosed the details of how she was abducted and raped by a cab driver who offered to give her a life along the road of Obiri-Kwerre Airport in the Obio/Akpor LGA of Rivers State in Nigeria.
The woman did not want her identity to be revealed and said that the suspect committed the crime around 10 pm on Monday while she was returning from work.
While narrating her ordeal, she stated that there was no vehicle or taxi, and she had to wait for some time before a driver stopped by the Air Force Junction along Aba Road, Port Harcourt.
She said that the man came over to her and asked where she was going, to which she replied that she was going towards Rukpokwu (near Port Harcourt). He then asked her to enter the car as he was offering a life.
He then started driving and soon showed her a knife and gun, asked her to keep quiet, and added that he had already killed a female as she shouted.
“He was like he was going to kill me; that the only way he was going to leave me was to sleep with me.” stated the woman.
He drove the car to a lonely and dark place and then raped the woman, after which, just a few meters away from that place, he again stopped the car and asked the woman to go out.
The victim then called on the government of the Rivers State to create extra security checkpoints on the main roads of Port Harcourt and its outskirts, particularly during the night.
The lady was traumatised and admitted to a government facility for treatment.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the state police command, sympathised with the victim and suggested her to report a complaint to the police.
“I empathise with her, but rather than going to the media, she should assure that the incident is reported to the closest police station for investigation and required action,” the spokesperson added.
