Families and friends of the victims of the unfortunate Abuja-Kaduna train attack have now warned the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) not to test their patience regarding the scheduled resumption of trains at the same route where the kidnapping took place.
They further stated that until the ones being kidnapped were rescued unhurt by the authorities, they would oppose any attempt to restart the train services.
They further claimed that Fidet Okhiria, the Managing Director, lied when he said he was in constant contact with the victims’ families.
Dr Abdulfatai Jimoh, the chairman, while speaking on behalf of the families o the victims, said during a discussion in Kaduna that it was unfortunate that 52 days have been passed since the abduction of their loved ones, and nothing is being done, all the NRC is thinking about was the resumption of train services.
He also described the move of the NRC as most heartless, considering that the 61 victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack were still suffering from the kidnappers.
Jimoh stated the NRC boss ignored the directives of the President of the country, Muhammadu Buhari, that the corporation must constantly be in contact with the victims’ families on development as regards to those who are with the kidnappers.
He gave a statement, “It has been 52 long days of confinement, worry, anxiety, tears, torture, trauma and recently, despair. We cannot wait for this to arrive to an end. Amidst this unfortunate situation, the NRC declared its planned resumption of train services for Monday, May 23.”
“Nigerians have always clearly voiced their opposition to this highly unsympathetic decision of the NRC, given that 61 Nigerians are still suffering in the deep forest at the hands of their kidnappers, and we have no idea when will they be released. Moreover, can the NRC guarantee the safety of prospective passengers?”
