PM Drew addresses oceanic issues with members of Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation

This productive meeting was held on the side-lines of the 46th Regular meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The discussion offered measures to tackle the environmental challenges.

PM Drew touched on a range of topics of concern, from the Sargassum crisis to navigating complex maritime boundaries, advancing renewable energy solutions, protecting marine ecosystems to addressing the challenges facing Haiti.

“This type of cooperation will be a means of achieving what we have not been able to achieve before.  We are a maritime state, so this (partnership) is very important for us to prevent our seas from being exploited”, added PM Drew while speaking about the importance of cooperation.

Further, the officials who represented the Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation were the inaugural Senior Coordinator for Atlantic Cooperation- Laura Lochman, Ambassador- Jessye Lapenn, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy in the Bureau of Energy Resources, and Barbara A Feinstein, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Caribbean Affairs and Haiti Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs.

The Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation is an important initiative that helps maintain sustainable economic growth between other Atlantic countries.  It promotes collaboration and interaction between the fields of science and technology.  It will also support the nation in removing all obstacles in maritime law enforcement and governance.

As Sargassum is affecting the beaches of the island nation, the leader of St Kitts and Nevis raised awareness and expressed the need to preserve and protect the oceans as they are the main attraction of the island nation which attracts maximum number of tourists.  Are.

The discussions underlined the importance of multilateral cooperation and shared ideas to address the challenges arising in the maritime and environmental contexts and the nations expressed their commitment to resolve the issues through sustainable solutions.
