In a devastating turn of events late Sunday night, tragedy unfolded on the bustling Oshodi-Apapa Expressway as a fast-moving Mercedes Benz SUV collided with a stationary truck, resulting in a fiery inferno that claimed the lives of two individuals. 

The incident, occurring at Mandilas Bus Stop, Iyana Isolo, has left a community in mourning and raised concerns over road safety measures.

Eyewitness accounts from Mr. Abdulfatai Wasiu shed light on the harrowing moments leading up to the collision. 

He attributed the fatalities to the reckless speed at which the SUV was traveling before crashing into the immobile truck. The force of impact was such that a male occupant inside the SUV was severely burnt and succumbed to his injuries.

Confirming the tragic event, Dr. Femí Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), detailed the preliminary findings of the investigation. 

Upon arriving at the scene at 11:38 pm, emergency responders encountered a scene of devastation, with the SUV engulfed in flames after colliding with the truck.

By press time at 9 am on Monday, traffic flow had been restored following the successful evacuation of the three burnt victims from the charred remains of the SUV.

The remains were respectfully handled by officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for transportation to the morgue, marking the somber conclusion to a night of tragedy.

The logistical aftermath of the collision saw the flatbed truck and the burnt-out carcass of the SUV towed to the yards of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). 

While routine in such circumstances, these actions serve as a stark reminder of the human toll exacted by road accidents and the importance of stringent safety measures.
